Additionally, you will find an Anjeneya sannadhi outside the temple. One of the best features of the temple is its smiling Lord Narasimhar. Here the main God appears like a Shantha Moorthy. Secondly, the temple features Mahalakshmi in the lap of Lord Narasimhar. Ancient mythology describes this posture as "Paraspara Alingannam". Thirdly, the temple has 16 different types of snakes in its Garudun.

How to reach Sri Lakshmi Narasimhar Temple


The temple is located 60km from Chennai and few minutes from the heart of Sriperumbudur. Sri Lakshmi Narasimhar is located close to the Kadambattur Railway Station. Many trains from Chennai and Kancheepuram stop in this station. Additionally, you can visit the temple via road (car or bus). This is because the temple is well connected with many cities.

Timing - Sri Lakshmi Narasimhar Temple is open from 7.30am till 12.00pm and from 4.30pm till 8.00pm.

The temple has a Golden Mandapam, which is placed right in front of the Sri Ramanuja Shrine. The Golden Mandap was created by a Maharaja from Mysore. Many believe that the Mandap looks like a temple itself. The temple also has four kalasas to portray four vedas of Lord Paravasudevva. Walking into the Sri Adikesava Perumal Temple, you will find statues of Sridevi, Bhoodevi, Lord Vishnu's Vehicle - "Eagle" and Dwaraapallakas.

Legends of the Temple

Sri Adikesava Perumal Temple is linked with many myths and legends. Boodha Ganas plays an integral role in the temple. Historically, Boodha Ganas represents an army that approached Lord Vishu for relief from a spell (curse). The curse was put by Lord Shiva. Consequently, Lord Vishnu created a fresh spring and cleansed the curse. The places is known as Boodha Ganas because Lord Vishnu gave darshna to his devotees from their. Today, the place is known as Bhoodhapuri.

Festivals in the Temple

Sri Adikesava Perumal Temple celebrates Masi Pooram during the months of February and March. Moving on, in March and April, the temple celebrates Panguni Uthiram. These are two important festivals in the temple. On the very last friday of Panguni Uthiram and on the last friday or Chithirai, many poojas are performed in the temple. A very divine Tirumanjanam is performed in the Sri Adikesava Perumal Temple for Mother Yathiraja Valli, Acharya Sri Ramauja and Sri Andal. During the days of Deepavalli, the deity is worshipped using hot water. Also, Lord Vishnu is dressed with woolen coats and velvet upper blankets.

Features of the Sri Adikesava Perumal Temple


Officially, Sriperumbudur is the birth place of Vaishnavite Acharya. He is a famous philosopher, who established the divine Vishtadvaida. Since heavens opened and gave birth to a great Acharya in the Sri Adikesava Perumal Temple, the place does not have a seperate Sorgavasal (Passage to Heaven). According to hindu devotees, "Sorgavasal" is an important element in many Lord Vishnu Temples.
